Easy Potluck Desserts

sweet treatsGetting together with friends or family for a camping trip means great times, laughter, and a lot of delicious food.

If you’ve been tasked with bringing a dessert dish to your campfire potluck, here are a few ideas that will have everyone raving and coming back for more.

Campfire Cones Bar

Set out stacks of waffle cones and a few containers filled with yummy meltable treats, like mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, or mini peanut butter cups, plus some fresh fruit like sliced bananas or raspberries.

Fill each cone with the desired treat options, then wrap completely in a foil square and set over the campfire until the fillings get toasty and melty, about 5 to 6 minutes. Have adults help children unwrap the hot cones.

Twinkie Strawberry Shortcake

This must be one of the easiest desserts ever! At home, slice up some fresh strawberries and pack them in a cooler along with cans of whipped cream. Bring boxes of Twinkies along on your trip.

When it’s dessert time, spoon the chilled sliced strawberries over the Twinkies and top with whipped cream.

No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars

This is the ideal make-ahead treat. In a large bowl place 2 cups of semisweet chocolate chips and 3/4 cup peanut butter. Heat the bowl in the microwave on high for 30 seconds, then remove and stir. Keep heating for 30 seconds and then stirring, until your chocolate and peanut butter are melted together.

Add 3 cups of your favorite flavor of Cheerios cereal, and mix gently until the Cheerios are completely coated. Spread into a buttered 9-inch square pan, cover and chill. Bring the pan along in your cooler on the camping trip, then slice and serve.

With the easy preparation and clean up of these simple camping potluck treats, you’ll be able to kick back and enjoy the potluck, while watching your family gobble them down.
